Off-road caravanning the ‘gecko’ way – Letaba Herald

In Haenertsburg a group of outdoor enthusiasts are making inroads in producing high-end quality multi-terrain caravans. Keith Teubes started Gecko, a caravan building company, more than ten years ago. “My wife, Alison, and I are fanatical about caravanning and the outdoors and do not enjoy staying in self-catering units or chalets. “For the past 35-years we have owned a number of caravan brands and had one caravan for on-road use and another for off-road. The on-road caravan was a 6,5m long, luxury 2-berth unit with a double bed and an inside shower cubicle and separate fixed toilet,” says Keith. Modular bolt-on off-road trailer builds from gear box to camper – New Atlas

Canada's Beaver Built Adventure Trailers has crafted a tiny, ultra-rugged box trailer that builds up into a full-blown micro-camper via a modular ecosystem of bolt-on boxes and add-on accessories. The trailer can simply battle scree, wade through frigid river water and spit out dust on its way to delivering adventure goods deep into the local topography, or it can do all that before expanding into a complete base camp with rooftop tent, outdoor kitchen and electrical system. Buyers can equip it all at once during their initial order or build it up with bolt-ons over time. When we recently read Boreas Campers' claim about being the first trailer manufacturer in North America to use Cruisemaster suspension, it got us curious about what other North American manufacturers are sourcing parts fr...

New car tax proposals could see electric vehicle drivers charged by 2025 – Express

The Treasury said tax revenues would keep pace with changes prompted by the take-up of electric cars. The Government claimed “radical reform” was needed otherwise there would be no revenue from motoring taxation once net zero is reached in 2050, and potentially even before in 2040.The report stated: “The Government must make it clear to motorists who purchase electric vehicles that they will be required to pay for road usage, as is currently the case for petrol and diesel vehicles.“It must ensure that any alternative road charging mechanism incentivises motorists to purchase vehicles with cleaner emissions while contributing tax revenues to support the maintenance of the road network.”

This Off-Road Version of the 1990s Dodge Caravan Almost Made It to Production – The Drive

Michael Santoro may not be a superstar designer like Ian Callum, but he's certainly a stylist with whose work you're familiar—he helped shape the TJ Jeep Wrangler, for starters. Throughout his tenure at Chrysler, during which he also penned the Cirrus and bridge-jumping Dodge Stratus "cloud cars," Santoro became the de facto minivan specialist, a role in which he drew up everything from surf vans to "high-performance Autobahn stormers." During this time, Santoro also envisioned a ruggedized Dodge Caravan, one that came painfully close to being realized before Jeep, out of supposed pure jealously, got the project shut down.Santoro revealed the unnamed Caravan concept on a page of his personal website, where he recalls his history as Chrysler's minivan wizard. He earned himself this title by...
